Running with REI
In 2021, I partnered with REI for a content project creating 16 YouTube shorts about running in Brooklyn. The project offered a unique learning experience as a producer and journalist as I explored the differences between brand content and traditional journalism. Branded content can be more personalized and engaging, but traditional journalism focuses on presenting objective facts. Content creators can use new styles, technologies, and platforms to reach audiences, while traditional journalism adheres to guidelines for accuracy and impartiality.
Branded content creates deeper connections with audiences by tailoring content to their needs and interests. Meanwhile, traditional journalism serves the crucial role of informing the public but may have different levels of personalization. Branded content promotes ideas or products, while conventional journalism is intended to inform and is not tied to a brand. Both play essential roles in shaping public discourse and the media industry.
My experience with REI has improved my skills as a multimedia producer and journalist. I am grateful for the lessons learned during this wintery experience. Thanks, REI!
