Brittany Washington is a dynamic communications strategist, multimedia producer, and journalist with over a decade of experience telling bold, impactful stories on every medium, short of song and dance. With a career that’s taken her to over 25 countries, she has gained a track record for creating stories that speak to people,  including  such topics  as  climate chamge, economic inequality, racial and criminal justice, environmental sustainability, LGBTQIA+ issues, homelessness, mental health, climate migration, early childhood education, immigration, and international policy reform.

Leadership Roles

Recently, she  served as Director of Communications  for urban forestry  at American Forests, where she led national campaigns for the Tree Equity program, pursued media, developed community partnerships, and  unlocked  new funding streams.  She was  also a Senior Video Producer at HuffPost, where she launched original video content and was in charge of full-cycle production strategy, and a Multimedia Producer at Open Society Foundations,  where  she led  global storytelling  campaigns of grantees around the world  that reached millions.

Strategic Strengths

 Brittany’s work lies at the intersection of creative production and strategic communications and includes leading product launches, value proposition development, customer journey mapping, and editorial and campaign planning from concept through promotion. She has developed content for HBO, A24, The New Yorker, REI, and the New York Academy of Sciences, whether launching a digital series, building a messaging strategy, or producing a documentary from scratch.

Experienced in high-level stakeholder engagement and crisis communications, her portfolio includes wide range of multimedia skills, program briefings, executive messaging, explainer videos, blog posts, grant proposals, and mission-aligned storytelling. She is skilled in A/B testing, analytics, and building performance dashboards that track KPIs such as click-through rate, dwell time, and campaign ROI. Her ability to collaborate with product teams, sales leads, and C-suite executives ensures consistent, strategic messaging across every channel.

Academic Foundation

Brittany also holds a Master’s degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences, with a focus on urban ecology and biogeochemistry. Her research examined riparian zone biogeochemistry in urban watersheds, and her findings were recently published in the Journal of Environmental Quality. That research mindset carries over into her communications and marketing work, which includes in-depth audience and competitive analysis, SWOT analysis, behavioral insights, data-informed content strategy, and market insights to inform every strategy.  She leads with vision, drives strategy with precision, and delivers content that has something to say that engages, informs, and inspires.

 New York-based, yet with a global perspective, Brittany loves to run, paint, practice Muay Thai, cook, and explore whatever adventure life brings her, whether in the field, behind a camera, or backpacking somewhere in the world.
